About ABC Classic

ABC Classic is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's national classical music radio network. It plays orchestral works, opera, chamber music, recitals and live concerts, with a strong focus on Australian performers and composers, who make up about half of the music heard.

The network began in 1976 as ABC-FM, the ABC's first experiment with FM broadcasting, and was known as ABC Classic FM from 1994 until it took its current name in 2019. It is publicly funded and run by the ABC. Programming is in English, and annual events include the Classic 100 countdowns and AusMusic Month each November. This stream is the New South Wales feed.

The stream is delivered as HLS in high-quality AAC at about 252 kbps. Expect presenters introducing the music, short news and weather updates, and long stretches of uninterrupted classical repertoire from the baroque to contemporary works and film soundtracks. Because it is a free public service stream, it suits background listening at work or study as well as dedicated concert-style listening, and further programme details are published on the ABC Classic website.
