Radio Farda
About Radio Farda
Radio Farda is the Persian-language service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, launched in the early 2000s and aimed at listeners in Iran. The word farda means tomorrow in Persian. The programming combines news and analysis with current affairs features, interviews, reports on human rights, culture and society, and a music element with a mix of Persian and international pop that was part of the original concept of attracting younger listeners. The broadcaster is funded by the United States government through its international media agency, which shapes its editorial mission and should be kept in mind when comparing it with other sources.
The station is produced mainly from Prague and Washington and reaches audiences by shortwave, satellite and the internet, which has become the main route for listeners who live in countries where access to independent news is restricted. This is the official internet stream, carrying the live Persian audio. Because the stream is speech-heavy, it suits listeners who want to follow current events or practise Persian comprehension. It plays in the browser on RadioKite with no installation needed, and you can add it to your favourites for later.
