About Radio Farda

Radio Farda is a Persian-language radio service for listeners in Iran and the Persian-speaking world. It mixes news and current affairs with popular Persian and Western music, and the stream is delivered as a 128 kbps MP3 feed.

The service went on the air on 19 December 2002 as a joint effort of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) and the Voice of America, and its management was later consolidated under RFE/RL. It is produced from Prague in the Czech Republic and is funded by the United States government through its international broadcasting agency, so its editorial perspective is that of an international public broadcaster aimed at Iranian audiences.

Early descriptions of the service say it was designed to appeal to a young audience, with a large share of airtime given to music alongside news bulletins, reports and talk programmes. Current schedule details are not listed in the sources consulted; the official website radiofarda.com has up-to-date programme information. Access to the website and broadcasts may be restricted in Iran.
