About NRK Sápmi
NRK Sápmi is the Sámi-language radio service of the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK, also known as NRK Sámi Radio. It broadcasts news, talk, culture and music for the Sámi people, mainly in Northern Sámi.
NRK's Sámi radio dates back to 1946, when regular Sámi radio news began from Tromsø, and it became a standalone radio station in 1999. The unit has been headquartered in Kárášjohka (Karasjok) since 1984, with journalists based in several other places in northern Norway. It also produces the Ođđasat newscast and podcasts in Sámi languages.
Listeners can expect spoken programmes about Sámi society and culture together with Sámi and other music. The service is part of NRK's regional and minority-language offering, and it can be heard online through the NRK Radio website and apps. The stream is an MP3 feed at 192 kbps delivered over HTTPS, and it has been checked and found to deliver normal stereo audio. Programme details are published on the NRK Radio website.
