Jam
About Jam
Jam is an alternative music radio channel of the Belgian French-language public broadcaster RTBF. It plays a broad, unformatted mix of indie, alternative, electronic, folk, nu-jazz, urban and pop music, with an emphasis on emerging artists and lesser-known tracks, including Belgian acts.
Jam was created by RTBF as a digital-only service, available online and on DAB+, aimed at listeners who want music discovery rather than mainstream chart rotation. As a public-service station it is run by RTBF and speaks to a French-speaking audience in Wallonia and Brussels, although much of the music is sung in English and other languages.
Expect eclectic playlists, occasional live sessions and special programmes dedicated to local scenes such as Belgian jazz, sometimes recorded at venues in Brussels. Because the channel is not tied to a strict commercial format, a single hour can move from hip hop to acoustic folk to electronic music. The internet stream is delivered as MP3 at around 160 kbps in stereo. Detailed schedule information is available on the RTBF website, and the exact current line-up of programmes is not listed here.
