ByteFM

ByteFM is a hosted online radio from Hamburg with independent pop, rock, world music, interviews and background information, and is a winner of the Grimme Online Award. The programme is made up of shows presented by music journalists, DJs and record collectors, each with their own taste, covering indie, alternative, soul, jazz, electronic and global sounds, with a strong emphasis on discovering new releases and revisiting overlooked records. Between the songs, presenters offer context about artists, labels and scenes.

The station grew out of the Hamburg music scene and has built a reputation for thoughtful, editor-driven radio on the internet, a quality recognised by the Grimme Online Award, one of Germany's most respected media prizes. Because it is non-commercial in spirit and personality-led, it feels very different from automated playlists, and it is a favourite of people who like to be guided by knowledgeable hosts. The spoken content is in German, while the music is international and wide-ranging. The stream is delivered as MP3 at 192 kbps, a generous bitrate that gives the varied recordings a clear and detailed sound. It plays in your browser on RadioKite without any installation, and you can add it to your favourites.
