About BBC Radio 3

BBC Radio 3 is the BBC's national station for classical music and the arts. It plays a broad range of classical music, from early music and the Baroque to contemporary works, together with opera, jazz, world music, drama and cultural talk. This stream carries the live Radio 3 output.

The station is owned and operated by the BBC and traces its roots to the Third Programme, which began on 29 September 1946; it took the name Radio 3 on 30 September 1967. It is funded mainly by the UK licence fee. Radio 3 is known for live concert broadcasts, including the BBC Proms, and for featuring the BBC's own orchestras and choirs alongside leading commercial recordings. Presentation is in English and speech is generally measured and informative.

Expect daytime programmes of classical selections, evening concerts and opera, and specialist late-night jazz and world music shows. Some programmes may be restricted outside the United Kingdom for rights reasons. The stream is delivered as HLS with AAC audio at roughly 96 to 101 kbps, and it plays in your browser on RadioKite without installation.
