Fréquence 3 World

Fréquence 3 World is one of the thematic web radio channels of Fréquence 3, a French station that describes itself as one of the first French digital radios. The channel carries the tagline "La radio qui vous fait voyager" and plays a worldwide mix that, according to the stream's own metadata, ranges across soul, R&B, funk rock, acid jazz, trip-hop, Latin jazz, dub, Afrobeat and Latin soul.

Fréquence 3 was founded in 2001 and presents itself as run by a team of volunteers. Its local FM broadcasts serve the Touraine and Loir-et-Cher areas of France, while the web channels, including World and Urban, are available to listeners anywhere. The website and presentation are in French. The station does not publish further details about its ownership on its homepage.

Listeners can expect an eclectic, groove-oriented selection of international sounds rather than a single genre. This stream is delivered in lossless FLAC inside an Ogg container, which gives very high audio quality but needs considerably more bandwidth than typical MP3 or AAC streams.
