About Classic21

Classic 21 is a French-language radio network from RTBF, the public broadcaster of the French Community of Belgium. It is based in Mons and aimed at listeners in Wallonia and Brussels. The station plays classic rock and pop, centred on Anglophone music from the 1960s to the 1990s, rather than classical music despite what its name might suggest.

Classic 21 launched in 2004, replacing the earlier Radio 21 service. As part of RTBF it is a public-service station, and it is subject to the broadcaster's obligations to feature artists from the French-speaking part of Belgium. RTBF also runs digital-only spin-off channels under the Classic 21 name that focus on particular decades or genres such as the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, blues, metal and soul. Its format has been described differently over the years, with some sources calling it classic rock and others a mix of adult contemporary and pop.

Listeners can expect presenters speaking French and a rolling selection of well-known hits and deeper cuts from the rock and pop catalogue. This stream is delivered as an MP3 feed at around 160 kbps. Programming details and schedules are published on the RTBF website.
