Alternativa by Mix

Alternativa by Mix is an online channel from ACIR Online and iHeartRadio in Mexico City, playing adult alternative and album-oriented rock from the 80s, 90s and later. The playlist follows the thread of alternative music through the decades, from new wave and college-radio favourites to the guitar-driven anthems of the nineties and the more recent indie and adult alternative songs that sit between rock and pop. Songs are mostly in English, with some Spanish-language alternative acts mixed in, producing a stream that is familiar and fresh at once.

The Mix brand is well known in Mexico for its blend of English and Spanish pop on FM, and this channel extends the idea into a dedicated alternative stream available to listeners anywhere. ACIR is one of the major Mexican radio groups and uses iHeartRadio to distribute its online-only services. The presentation is brief, with the emphasis on the music, and any announcements are in Spanish. As a commercial service, it can carry short promotional messages between songs. The stream is delivered as AAC+ at 48 kbps, a very low bitrate that keeps data use small, although the sound is less rich than on higher-bitrate streams. It plays in your browser on RadioKite, and you can add it to your favourites.
