BBC Afrique
About BBC Afrique
BBC Afrique is the BBC's French-language service for Africa, with news, talk and analysis. The programme covers events in French-speaking African countries and the wider continent, including politics, the economy, society, culture and sport, together with international news and discussion programmes with listeners. The broadcasters speak clear international French, and the coverage is intended for audiences in West and Central Africa and the diaspora.
The BBC has a long tradition of broadcasting for African audiences, and the French service complements its English, Swahili, Hausa, Somali and other language services. It is particularly valuable in regions where independent journalism can be difficult to find, and where radio is still the main way in which people get information. For learners of French, it provides a good example of formal spoken French and of the vocabulary of African current affairs. As a public service of the BBC, the content is not commercially sponsored. This stream is delivered as AAC+ at 101 kbps, an efficient codec that provides a clear sound for speech at a moderate bitrate and works in most current browsers and on phones. It plays in your browser on RadioKite without installation, and you can add it to your favourites.
