About Radio Jamaica 94 FM

Radio Jamaica 94 FM, formerly known as RJR 94 FM, is a Kingston-based station that mixes news, talk and music for a Jamaican audience. Its schedule includes news bulletins, current affairs, call-in programmes and a blend of Jamaican and international music. The stream here is a 128 kbps MP3 feed.

The station has a long history. It was licensed in 1950 as a subsidiary of the British Rediffusion Group, started as a wired service, and in 1953 became the first FM broadcaster in the British Caribbean colonies. The Jamaican government acquired it from Rediffusion in the 1970s, and shares were later sold to organisations and individuals, making it Jamaican-owned. The company went on to add other stations, such as FAME FM in 1984.

Programming is in English, with Jamaican speech and culture strongly present. Listeners can expect discussion of national issues, public service announcements and listener appeals alongside music, rather than a continuous playlist. Current show details are published by the broadcaster on its website.
