La Première

La Première is the main news and talk radio channel of RTBF, the public broadcaster of the French Community of Belgium. It is a generalist, mostly spoken-word station with news bulletins, current affairs, interviews, debates, culture and sports coverage in French.

The station is produced by RTBF and is available on FM and DAB+ as well as online. It is the French-language counterpart of Radio 1 in the Flemish public system and addresses a broad audience in Wallonia and Brussels. Its morning programme, Matin Première, is one of its best-known shows. RTBF's other radio services include VivaCité, Musiq3, Classic 21 and Tipik, each with its own musical or cultural focus, whereas La Première is the network centred on information.

Listeners can expect a schedule built around information and discussion rather than music, with the occasional cultural programme. As a public broadcaster, RTBF is funded largely by public money and has a public-service mission. The stream used here is an MP3 internet feed at about 160 kbps in stereo.
