Duna World Rádió

Duna World Rádió, listed as MR8, is the Hungarian public radio channel for Hungarians living abroad and for listeners who follow Hungarian affairs from outside the country. The schedule combines news, talk, cultural programmes and music, with a particular attention to Hungarian communities in neighbouring countries, such as Slovakia, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine, and in the diaspora worldwide. The tone is calm and informative.

Hungary has a busy radio market, with public stations from Duna Média, national commercial networks, regional stations and many web channels, and the internet lets Hungarians living abroad keep in touch with the music and voices of home. It belongs to Duna Média, the public broadcaster, and carries no regular commercial advertising. As a public service, its news content reflects the editorial perspective of the national media institution. The stream is delivered as MP3 at 40 kbps, a very low bitrate that keeps data use minimal and is adequate for speech, although the sound is thin and not suited to music. It plays in your browser on RadioKite without installation, and you can add it to your favourites.
