Universal 88.1

Universal 88.1 is a Mexico City adult contemporary station that calls itself the station of the classics, playing familiar songs from the last few decades. The playlist consists of well-known pop and rock favourites from the 1970s through the 2000s, in English and Spanish, with a smooth, easygoing presentation. It is the kind of station that works as background for the office, the car or the home, with songs that most listeners will recognise immediately.

The station broadcasts on 88.1 FM in the capital under the call sign XHRED-FM and is part of Grupo Radio Centro, a long-established Mexican radio company that owns several stations in the metropolitan area. The Universal brand is known for its mix of international hits and classics with news updates and traffic information. Mexicans who live abroad can use the online stream to hear a familiar sound from home, and learners of Spanish can enjoy the relaxed, clear speech of its presenters. As a commercial service, it carries advertising between songs. The stream is delivered as AAC+ at 128 kbps, which provides good, clear sound at a moderate bitrate. It plays in your browser on RadioKite, and you can add it to your favourites.
