ROKit Radio Old Time Gold

ROKit Radio Old Time Gold is one channel of the Vintage ROKiT Radio Network, an internet radio platform that describes itself as not for profit and is devoted to shows from the golden age of broadcasting. The channel plays classic old-time radio programmes from the 1930s to the 1950s, including comedy, drama, mystery and adventure, with the voices and sound effects that made the theatre of the mind come alive.

The network runs around seventeen channels, among them comedy, crime, science fiction, drama and 1940s streams, as well as classical and jazz. The owner and exact location are not published on the website, so the details of the schedule and the operators are not known. Old-time radio has a devoted following among listeners who enjoy storytelling, wit and nostalgia, and it makes a relaxing companion for the evening. The programmes are in English and reflect the language and attitudes of their time.

The stream is delivered as MP3 at only 48 kbps, a very low bitrate that is well suited to speech and uses minimal data, which suits weak connections, although the sound is thin and not suited to music. It plays in your browser on RadioKite without installation, and you can add it to your favourites.
