CBC North Iqaluit
About CBC North Iqaluit
CBC North Iqaluit is the CBC Radio One service for Nunavut, broadcasting from Iqaluit, the territorial capital on Baffin Island. The schedule includes news, current affairs, features and community programmes for the Arctic, with weather and travel information that matter in a place where flights and ice conditions shape daily life, together with national CBC shows. Programmes are presented in English and in Inuktitut and other Indigenous languages of the region, reflecting the culture of the Inuit communities that make up most of the population.
The CBC is Canada's national public broadcaster and is funded mainly by the federal government, and Radio One carries no commercial advertising. In the North, radio has a special importance because it connects remote communities that are spread across an enormous territory, and CBC North has long been a main source of news and cultural content for them. For listeners elsewhere, it offers a rare glimpse into Arctic life and into Indigenous languages. Some programmes may be restricted outside Canada because of rights. The stream is delivered as MP3 at 128 kbps, which works on practically every browser, phone and smart speaker and keeps data use moderate. It plays in your browser on RadioKite without installation, and you can add it to your favourites.
