rautemusik Karneval

The Karneval channel of the German web radio network rautemusik (rm.fm) plays carnival hits and party music, with songs from Cologne's carnival. The programme brings together the Kölsch-language carnival anthems that fill the streets and halls of the Rhineland during the fifth season of the year, along with Schlager, party favourites, discofox and danceable pop that suits costume parties, sessions and street processions. The mood is boisterous, cheerful and made for singing along.

The rautemusik network is known for the sheer number of channels it offers, with dozens of genre streams that cover pop, rock, hip hop, electronic styles and themed specials, all available without a subscription. The Karneval channel is meant for the weeks around Fastnacht, Fasching and Karneval, but fans of the genre listen to it all year. Presenter chat is minimal, and station announcements are in German, as are the songs, often in local dialect. As an internet-only service, it can be heard everywhere. The stream is delivered as MP3 at 192 kbps, a generous bitrate that gives a full and punchy sound to brass bands, accordions and choruses. It plays in your browser on RadioKite without installation, and you can add it to your favourites for the next celebration.
