NTS Field Recordings

Field Recordings is one of the infinite mixtapes from NTS, an online radio platform with a UK presence. Rather than songs, it plays natural and environmental ambience from around the world: sounds gathered in homes, suburbs, cities, gardens and jungles.

According to the NTS page for the mixtape, listeners are invited to submit their own recordings for consideration, so the stream works as a growing archive of everyday and wild soundscapes. NTS infinite mixtapes are continuous streams built around a theme; this one is devoted entirely to found sound. Further details about who curates the selection are not published on the page.

Expect no presenters and no conventional music, just evolving soundscapes that suit focus, sleep or quiet listening, whether that means rain on a roof, a busy street or birdsong at dawn. The stream is delivered over HTTPS as stereo MP3 at 256 kbps. The page text is in English, while the audio itself is non-verbal ambience, so it can be enjoyed by listeners anywhere in the world.
