WQXR Operavore
About WQXR Operavore
Operavore is the all-opera web stream of WQXR, the classical music station of New York Public Radio. It plays a continuous mix of opera arias, duets, scenes, choruses and orchestral numbers around the clock, with no regular news or talk.
The Operavore name began as a WQXR website and stream in 2012, and the brand later extended to a weekly opera show on WQXR. The stream is one of several that WQXR offers online and in its app, alongside its main classical service. WQXR is based in New York City, and the owner is New York Public Radio, a non-profit public media organization. The opera repertoire is sung in many languages, mainly Italian, German, French and English, while any announcements are in English.
Expect a wide sweep of the operatic repertoire, from baroque to contemporary works, presented as a listening channel rather than a talk service. The stream is delivered over HTTPS as MP3 at 128 kbps.
