Hitradio Ö3
About Hitradio Ö3
Hitradio Ö3 is Austria's most listened-to radio station, a nationwide pop and hits channel run by the public broadcaster ORF. It plays contemporary hit radio, mixing current chart music with pop favourites from the 1980s onward, and combines it with news, traffic information, weather and entertainment.
Ö3 began on 1 October 1967 as part of ORF's numbered channel system, alongside Ö1 and the regional Ö2 stations, and was built up as the entertainment service by Ernst Grissemann. After a reform in the late 1990s it focused mainly on the contemporary hit radio format. It broadcasts in German and reaches roughly a third of Austrian radio listeners, according to published audience figures.
Expect a lively morning show, frequent short news bulletins, service information for drivers, competitions and a steady rotation of pop hits. This stream is the high-quality 192 kbps MP3 feed provided by ORF's broadcast partner, and it runs around the clock.
