About Akashvani Raagam

Akashvani Raagam is the 24-hour classical music channel of All India Radio, the public broadcaster of India. It carries Indian classical music, covering both the Hindustani and Carnatic traditions, and it is a rare stream devoted entirely to that repertoire.

The channel was launched on Republic Day, 26 January 2016, at a function in Bengaluru, and is run from All India Radio's Bengaluru centre. Its schedule includes archival recordings as well as performances by emerging artists who have been auditioned and approved by All India Radio. Recordings from the annual Akashvani Sangeet Sammelan have also been aired on it. Besides internet streaming, Raagam has been offered through DTH platforms and the All India Radio mobile app.

Listeners can expect long vocal and instrumental performances of ragas rather than chatter or news, which suits focused listening, study or relaxation. Detailed schedules are not covered here. This stream is delivered as a low-bitrate HLS feed using AAC audio at about 32 kbps, so it works well on slow mobile connections.
