About CKUA

CKUA is a listener-supported radio network based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It has an eclectic schedule of specialist shows covering blues, jazz, classical, folk, country, roots and world music, along with other genres, all presented in English by hosts who know their subject.

CKUA began broadcasting on 21 November 1927 from the University of Alberta and describes itself as the first public broadcaster in Canada. It was later run by Alberta Government Telephones and then by a provincial educational body, and since 1994 it has been owned by the non-profit CKUA Radio Foundation. Donations from listeners make up most of its funding. Its flagship transmitter is CKUA-FM on 94.9 MHz in Edmonton, supported by rebroadcasters across the province, with studios in Edmonton and Calgary.

The RadioKite stream is AAC at roughly 100 kbps, a good quality for both music and speech, and it plays in the browser around the clock.
