SR 1 Europawelle

SR 1 Europawelle is the pop and information station of Saarländischer Rundfunk, the public broadcaster of the German state of Saarland. The programme is aimed at a broad adult audience and combines current and recent pop and rock hits with regional news, traffic, weather, local events and entertaining morning and afternoon shows. The name Europawelle reflects the region's position on the border with France and Luxembourg, and the presentation often emphasises the cross-border character of the area.

Saarländischer Rundfunk is one of the smallest public broadcasters within the ARD network and is financed mainly through licence fees, so SR 1 carries limited advertising compared with commercial stations. For people from the region who live elsewhere, the stream is a way to keep in touch with home, and for learners of German it provides clear speech with a regional colour, together with the pop songs that are easy to follow. Saarland has a distinct cultural identity, shaped by its history between France and Germany, which is reflected in the programming. The stream is delivered as MP3 at 128 kbps, which provides a clear and balanced sound on most devices and keeps data use moderate. It plays in your browser on RadioKite, and you can add it to your favourites.
