About Vividh Bharati

Vividh Bharati is the entertainment and commercial broadcasting service of All India Radio, India's public broadcaster. It plays Hindi film songs, ghazals, light classical and devotional music, mixed with short plays, comedy sketches, listener request shows and features.

The service launched on 3 October 1957 and is part of the Prasar Bharati network. Its programmes are produced in Mumbai and relayed through stations across India. It is best known for long-running shows such as Jaimala, Hawa Mahal and Chhayageet, and for being, for decades, a main place to hear classic Bollywood playback singers on the radio. The language is mainly Hindi, with some Urdu in the poetry and ghazal programmes.

Listeners can expect a relaxed, nostalgic mix of golden-era film hits alongside newer songs, with presenters introducing request programmes and special themed shows. This stream is delivered as HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) with AAC audio at roughly 93 kbit/s, so it works in most browsers and mobile players. Exact programme schedules are published by All India Radio and may change.
