About WXTJ 100.1 FM

WXTJ 100.1 FM is the student-run freeform radio station of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Students host their own shows and organize live music events with the local music community, so the sound is eclectic and varies from show to show.

WXTJ began in 2013 as an internet-only station and started broadcasting over the air in spring 2016 as a low-power FM station with a transmitter on Observatory Hill. It was created as a complement to WTJU 91.1 FM and shares studios and operational resources with it. Both stations are licensed to the Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia, while WXTJ Student Radio, a contracted independent organization at the university, operates and programs it.

Programming is in English and varies with the student hosts and the semester, so expect an unpredictable mix rather than a fixed format. The station serves Charlottesville and nearby suburbs and is a good place to hear local and student-curated music. The stream is MP3 at 192 kbps.
