SomaFM Folk Forward

This stream carries Folk Forward, SomaFM's channel of indie folk, alt-folk and the occasional folk classic. The music centres on acoustic guitars, banjos, warm harmonies and honest songwriting, drawing from modern bands that have updated the tradition as well as from the older recordings that inspired them. The mood moves from gentle and reflective to upbeat and foot-tapping, and the mix of well-known names and new discoveries keeps things fresh.

SomaFM is an independent, listener-supported internet radio station that has broadcast from San Francisco since 1999 and plays no commercials. Its folk programming is chosen by humans who love the genre, with a deliberate eye on contemporary artists who push it forward. This entry is the MP3 version at 128 kbps, which works on practically every browser, phone and smart speaker, and the artist and title are displayed whenever the track changes. RadioKite also lists the AAC version of the same channel and a separate Folk Forward entry, which play the same programme, so you can choose whichever suits your device and connection. It fits weekend mornings, long drives and quiet evenings, and you can add it to your favourites.
