BBC Radio nan Gàidheal
About BBC Radio nan Gàidheal
BBC Radio nan Gàidheal is the BBC's Scottish Gaelic-language station, with entertainment, music, news and sport. The schedule includes news and current affairs in Gaelic, magazine programmes, sport, music shows, children's content and features about the culture, history and communities of the Highlands and Islands, where the language is most widely spoken. The music ranges from traditional Gaelic song, pipes and fiddle to contemporary Gaelic-language pop and rock, and the presenters speak with warmth and humour.
The station was launched in 1985 and plays a central part in the life of Gaelic speakers, supporting a minority language that is spoken by tens of thousands of people in Scotland and by many more learners. As a service of the BBC, it is funded mainly by the licence fee and carries no commercial advertising within the United Kingdom. The language is Scottish Gaelic, which makes the stream valuable for learners who want to hear the language spoken naturally, as well as for fans of Celtic music. Because of rights, some programmes may be restricted outside the United Kingdom. The feed does not declare a fixed codec or bitrate in its metadata. It plays in your browser on RadioKite, and you can add it to your favourites.
