About Radio Folkestone
Radio Folkestone is a community radio station serving Folkestone and the surrounding Kent coast in England. It broadcasts a mix of chart hits and classic tunes, together with local interviews, community features and live discussions, and aims to include music made in Kent in its output.
The station launched in March 2011 as 105.9 Academy FM, broadcasting from Folkestone Academy, and was rebranded Radio Folkestone in May 2024. It is an independent, non-commercial charity-run service built by volunteers and broadcasters, and it has a tradition of training young people in radio production alongside adult volunteers. It has won national Community Radio Awards in 2016, 2017 and 2018, according to its own website.
Online, the station is available as a low-bitrate HE-AAC stream of about 48 kbps over HTTPS, which suits mobile connections. Expect friendly, locally produced programming during the day, with some overnight and weekend hours automated. A detailed programme schedule is not reproduced here.
