About Voice of Indonesia

Voice of Indonesia (VOI) is the international broadcasting service of Indonesia, run by the public broadcaster Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI). It presents news, culture and information about Indonesia to listeners at home and abroad.

VOI traces its origins to 1945 and broadcasts in several languages, including Indonesian, English, French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin and Japanese, according to published sources. As an external service it serves as a window on Indonesian politics, society, arts and music, and it has long been used for cultural diplomacy. Besides online streaming it has also used shortwave transmission.

Listeners abroad can use it to follow Indonesian news and hear how the country presents itself to the world, while Indonesians living overseas can keep in touch with home. The stream on RadioKite is an AAC feed at about 128 kbps. Expect news bulletins, talk and feature programmes and cultural content, with the language depending on the time of day. The official website, voinews.id, was under maintenance when this description was written, while the live broadcasts continued.
