RDP África
About RDP África
RDP África is a public radio service of Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP), produced in Lisbon and aimed at the Portuguese-speaking countries of Africa and at the African communities living in Portugal. It combines music, news and cultural programming in Portuguese, and it is also referred to as RTP África.
The service began in the 1990s, growing out of earlier Africa-focused opt-outs of RDP Internacional. Its music mix draws on Lusophone African artists from countries such as Cape Verde, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé and Príncipe, alongside Portuguese and Brazilian music, plus reports on the African music scene. As a public service operator, RTP runs it as part of its mission to connect Portugal with the Lusophone world.
Expect a relaxed blend of African rhythms, news bulletins and conversation programmes in Portuguese, with a distinct accent on Africa-related topics. The stream used here is an HTTPS HLS feed carrying AAC audio at roughly 160 kbps, played through the RTP streaming platform.
