YOU FM

YOU FM is the youth radio station of Hessischer Rundfunk (hr), the public broadcaster of the German state of Hesse. It plays current pop, dance and hip hop hits and is aimed at listeners roughly between 14 and 29 years old. The station started in 2004 under this name, replacing the earlier hr XXL.

As part of the public broadcasting network ARD, YOU FM is funded mainly through the licence fee and has no commercial focus. Alongside its music it offers news, entertainment, events and listener interaction, and the audience helps shape what is played. Reports on its 2010s relaunch describe a shift towards pop, dance and black music from an earlier rock emphasis.

The programme is presented in German. The stream here is an MP3 feed at 128 kbit/s in stereo delivered through the ARD distribution network. Note that the stream currently reports the name of another ARD youth station in its metadata, so the label may not match the station.
