SomaFM Sonic Universe

This stream carries SomaFM's Sonic Universe, a channel that transcends the world of jazz with eclectic, avant-garde takes on tradition. The selection moves from modern jazz, fusion and nu jazz to spiritual and cosmic jazz, with long improvisations, adventurous rhythms and electronic colours mixed into acoustic playing. It respects the roots of the genre while looking forward, so you might hear a classic quartet followed by a space-age synthesizer experiment and still feel the thread that connects them.

SomaFM is an independent, listener-supported internet radio station that has broadcast from San Francisco since 1999 and plays no commercials. Its channels are programmed by hand by people who love the improvisational spirit. This entry is the MP3 version at 128 kbps, which works on practically every browser, phone and smart speaker, and the artist and title are displayed whenever the track changes. RadioKite also lists another format of the same channel and a separate Sonic Universe entry, which play the same programme, so you can choose whichever suits your device and connection best. It is a rewarding way to explore jazz beyond the standard playlists, and you can add it to your favourites.
